A wedding ring symbolises the covenant made between husband and wife; circumcision symbolised the old covenant between God and Israel; baptism symbolises the new covenant between Jesus and His bride, the church. Just as by wearing a ring, we are saying we are married to someone, by being baptised we are saying we belong to Christ and are united with Him.
